What Documents Do You Need?
To keep you safe from rogue traders and prevent criminals from cashing in on stolen vehicles, Authorised Treatment Facilities require specific paperwork before they can scrap or salvage a car. This vital documentation simply ensures that every vehicle is sold as scrap or salvage either by the owner themselves or with their clear permission.
What Is Required To Scrap Your Car?
Ready to sell your car for scrap or salvage? Take a quick look at the checklist below to make sure everything goes smoothly, including the documents and items you'll need to have ready:
Photo ID
Our collection agents require a photo ID to confirm your legal ownership or status as the vehicle keeper. This ensures proper authorization before the car is processed, as scrapping is permanent.
V5C Registration Certificate
Your V5C (also known as the V5 or logbook) is a vital document that should be stored safely, as you will need it for several reasons—including scrapping your car. Please have your V5C ready when the collection agent arrives. The agent will sign Section 9, hand that portion back to you, and take the remainder of the document (which you should sign).
How to Get the Most Money for Your Scrap Car
Keys
Your vehicle valuation assumes the keys will be handed over at the time of collection; please let us know in advance if this is not the case. Without keys, it can be difficult—or even impossible—for some collection agents to remove your car. If this happens, we will connect you with buyers who have specialist equipment to lift the vehicle onto their truck without releasing the handbrake or turning the wheels.
MOT Certificates
Providing proof of your MOT history helps buyers identify any vehicle issues that could affect its salvage value. If high-value parts have failed, are defective, or were flagged with an advisory notice, your salvage offer may be reduced—at which point scrapping the vehicle might actually be the better financial choice.
Service History
Showing a complete (or even partial) service history is a great way to boost your car's value. It proves to buyers that you've kept up with maintenance and looked after the vehicle. Even if it's totaled from an accident, a well-loved car is worth more because many of its valuable parts are likely still in top working order!
Receipts
We understand that receipts are easy to lose or throw away over time, but sharing any you do have can significantly boost your vehicle's value. For example, if you recently installed a brand-new catalytic converter right before an accident, it could be worth a considerable amount.
If you are missing any of the requested documents, please notify us before collection to prevent any complications.
